What is your role in the Healthy Brain Study?
In addition to the internal parties on campus, I also try to involve external parties in the Healthy Brain Study. The unique character of the study and the multidisciplinarity of the research make it an excellent opportunity to build new bridges and give our research a real social impact. In the initial phase we mainly tried to involve companies and other organizations in the context of recruiting the participants. We are now going to work together to devise and answer research questions.

What is your connection with the theme Health and High Tech at the municipality of Nijmegen?
The Nijmegen region has a strong profile in 'Health & High Tech'. That is why, together with important partners such as municipality, university, UMC, HAN, province and the large companies in the region, we want to make even more use of the opportunities in these areas. Healthy Brain is an important topic within the Health theme and I have the lead in Healthy Brain. I see Healthy Brain as the most important opportunity to bring companies  to Nijmegen, to start new companies or to grow existing ones. And this of course on the basis of all the great research that we do in this area at the university and UMC.

When are you satisfied with your role in the Healthy Brain Study?
It is important to me that our research has a real social impact. I would love it if the Healthy Brain Study becomes the basis for developments that will affect us all in daily life. Suppose the sleep study will give us new insights that will ensure that in a few years' time we will all have a 'smart bed' at home that optimizes our sleeping pattern and makes us fitter? And that those beds are also developed and made in our region? Or that we learn so much about our eating behavior that we can influence it in a positive way? Potentially this is all possible with the Healthy Brain Study and if I have played a role in it, I am satisfied.
